Tourist
Information
Guide.
Ilfracombe
sits on the
steep
hillsides of
the North
Devon coast
overlooking
the Bristol
Channel just
over 220 miles
from London
(about 4.5
hours drive)
and just under
200 miles from
Birminham
(about 3.75
hours drive).
this
attractive
town has been
a popular
destination
since
Victorian
times as the
many guest
houses and
hotels can
attest to,
although a few
now have been
converted to
apartments.
Ilfracombe is
a delightful
place for a
weekend break
or a base for
a longer
holiday to
explore the
beautiful
Devon
countryside
and coast.
Quiet breaks
can be had in
the winter
months and the
town gets
busier from
Easter onwards
through to the
end of
September. The
most popular
activity is to
wander around
the old
harbour with
its mix of
yachts and
fishing boats
moored
permanently
there
(although many
are taken out
for the
winter), this
throngs with
visitors all
keen to take
in the sea air
and frequent
the many bars
and
restaurants.
